About The Nook

The Nook

Hey everyone! My name is Alli, and The Nook is my little passion project, hobby, and side hustle. I've always wanted to create something of my own. Ever since I was a kid, I would come up with small business ideas and plan out every little detail, only to never actually go through with them. Well, this time, I finally did it!

Starting The Nook has been so much fun. I've loved creating new things, learning how to run a small business, and getting back in touch with my creative side.

When I first started planning, I knew I wanted to choose a niche I was familiar with and could ease into. For me, that was vintage home goods. I've always loved thrifting and antiquing, especially finding sets of vintage dishes, glassware, and furniture.

The Nook

My great-grandmother is my inspiration and my muse. Growing up, her house was a treasure trove of beautiful things she'd collected over her lifetime. She had dozens of sets of silver, milk glass, crystal, Blue Willow china, Indiana glassware, seasonal dishes, trinkets, and so much more. Her house was extremely overwhelming in the best way, so I would slowly walk through every room, taking it all in (and making sure I didn't break anything).

The Nook

My mom inherited that same love for fine vintage home goods from her grandmother, along with a deep appreciation for the history and sentimental value behind each piece. Naturally, she started taking me shopping with her when I was young. We began thrifting together when I was in middle school, and I was that 11-year-old with a collection of milk glass and vintage strawberry pieces lol. Going to our local antique mall became our thing.

Over the years, I've learned more about how hard my great-grandmother worked in a law office, ran her household, and raised her four kids. She would save up and treat herself to new dishes, building her collections one piece at a time. Now, at 94 (and still a diva), she's passing those collections down. I've inherited a gorgeous set of pink milk glass and just about every piece of olive-colored Indiana glass you could imagine. I'll treasure them forever.

The Nook

That's a big part of what I want The Nook to be about: sharing my love for finding special pieces and giving them a new home. My favorite thing is watching someone find a piece they've been searching for, share a favorite childhood book with their own kids, or get excited about discovering something they never even knew existed.

One day, I'd love to expand into vintage furniture and have a retail space of my own. But for now, I'm so excited to share all of my little vintage and secondhand finds with you. Thank you for being here and following along this journey with me! <3
